PAT Testing Case Studies

Portable Appliance Testing in a Secure Health Unit

Medium-secure mental health unit regulated by the Care Quality Commission, 300+ staff members and patients.

  • DBS requirement
  • Collaborative approach in determining schedule, access and testing time
  • Working with vulnerable people
  • Schedule of work, tools list, £10m liability insurances
  • Multi-site

MPAT undertakes PAT testing for all sizes of organisation and industry.

This was a unique testing as, due to the nature of the building and patients, we were required to be escorted at all times. To facilitate this complex project, MPAT met with the in-house teams to decide on the best plan for all concerned and create a feasible testing schedule.

Having effectively coordinated with in-house teams and successfully completed the testing as planned, we were subsequently asked to test at one of their other units, and we are now in discussions for the testing of three more units.

For this particular job we needed to be DBS-approved, qualified and insured to £10m. All MPAT testers fulfil these criteria, as we have numerous customers who have these prerequisites, and we are happy to provide proof of this information prior to commencement of your job.

Portable Appliance Testing for European Headquarters

European Headquarters for a medical supply company. 200+ staff members.

  • Collaborative approach in determining schedule, access and testing time
  • Evening and night testing to minimise impact on productivity
  • Planned testing
  • Multi-site
  • Premises alarming

As this company works across Europe and multiple time zones, completing the testing at the right time of the day was imperative for them to remain as productive as possible. We met with them, assessed their building and 200+ person layout and discussed each area's computer access requirements and working times. Following these discussions we agreed that evening and night testing would be best to minimise the impact on the company’s productivity.

Through our efficient, structured and planned approach the testing went to schedule and was all completed outside of their core operational hours. This success and approach continued with the same success at their UK distribution centre.

Portable Appliance Testing on a Tight Schedule

Chartered quantity surveyors, 20+ staff members.

  • Fast turnaround required
  • PAT testing for CHAS accreditation
  • Office hours only
  • Single site

We were approached for this job and needed to be able to complete the testing and provide the reports within a very tight timescale. Our highly qualified and insured testers were able to undertake this and complete the relevant paperwork, enabling the company to have everything in place to send their submission to CHAS in advance of the deadlines.

Access to this site was only during office hours, so we ensured that we liaised with key personal to advise all staff members in advance that we would need access to their computer systems to fully inspect and test their workstation portable appliance items. Notifying the relevant teams we would be in their area about 10 minutes prior to our arrival proved successful, as everyone was able to provide us access at the required times with minimal impact on their normal working day and productivity.

High Volume PAT Testing

DJ needing her sound, mixing, computer and speaker equipment tested, 1 person.

  • Low number of items to be tested
  • Testing to tight schedule for wedding event
  • Same customer service provided

We take on a variety of PAT testing projects, including for customers who have only a few items: a small office or shop (florists, hairdressers, and a pharmacy to name a few!), a band requiring their items tested before a gig or in this case, a DJ needing her equipment tested and inspected for a wedding booking.

Working to a fairly tight schedule we arranged and booked the testing, however due to unforeseen circumstances, the customer needed to reschedule. We understand this can happen and we value all of our customers, so we rearranged a new date and successfully completed her testing in time for the wedding gig.
